On May 15 and 16, 2024, 13 students from Course 26 in the Public Relations major at Van Lang University successfully defended their graduation theses. This achievement marks the culmination of their diligent study and continuous efforts under the dedicated guidance of their lecturers.
For Public Relations students, the graduation thesis is a crucial component in assessing their academic capabilities, research skills, and practical proficiency in the field of communication. It provides an opportunity for students to apply their acquired knowledge to real-world scenarios while demonstrating their ability to think independently, creatively, and solve problems effectively.
During the thesis defense session, the councils highly evaluated many outstanding research topics, reflecting the students' potential and creativity in addressing practical issues.
The thesis titled “Online Communication Activities Aimed at Sustainable Tourism Development in Hoi An (Quang Nam province)” by Tran Ngoc Quy (supervised by MSc. Quach Thuyen Nha Uyen) was highly praised for its meticulous investment and novel approach, which is highly relevant in the current period. The study employed qualitative methods, thoroughly analyzing the current situation and limitations, and proposed suitable communication activities to raise awareness about sustainable tourism, attract tourists, and contribute to preserving the heritage values of Hoi An.
The thesis titled “The Impact of Proactive Social Responsibility on the Sustainable Competitive Advantage of Small and Medium Enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City” by Pham Thi Le Thanh (supervised by MSc. Le Hai Yen) received high marks for its serious and meticulous investment. Social responsibility plays a crucial role in the sustainable competitive advantage of businesses. In her research, Pham Thi Le Thanh conducted surveys on this impact at small and medium enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City, identifying the factors affecting participation levels and evaluating the impact on business efficiency and brand image. Based on the survey results, Le Thanh made several practical recommendations to encourage businesses to engage in social responsibility activities to enhance their competitive advantage.
Another highly praised thesis was titled “The Impact of Short Video Advertisements on Social Media on Gen Z's Choice of Café Services in Ho Chi Minh City” by Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tam (supervised by MSc. Tran Ngoc Anh Vu). This research targeted Gen Z, exploring the use of short video advertisements on social media by cafes to attract this demographic. The study examined the impact, identified the factors influencing effectiveness, and proposed creative video content strategies. The work was commended for its meticulous investment, rigorous theoretical framework, and achievement of the research objectives.
The thesis “The Impact of Social Media Communication on the Purchase Intentions of Sustainable Fashion Products Among Youth in Ho Chi Minh City” by Nguyen Dinh Hai Duong (supervised by MSc. Tran Ngoc Anh Vu) was also highly rated by the council for its thoroughness, logical structure, and innovative research gap. Through this research, Hai Duong aimed to understand and analyze the relationship between sustainable fashion and social media, reflecting his passion for fashion and environmental awareness, shared by Gen Z in general.
Each thesis carries a unique mission, contributing to addressing pressing societal issues from sustainable tourism development, promoting social responsibility, to attracting young customers and spreading environmentally friendly fashion. This forms a solid foundation for students as they embark on their future career paths.
In addition to the theses conducted in Vietnamese, the thesis “How global brands incorporate glocalization elements into their advertising campaign: A case study of Baemin” by student Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai (supervised by MSc. Tran Quang Thien) and the thesis “The potential of Vietnamese financial companies to create ESG reports based on website content analysis” by student Luong Thanh Vinh (supervised by MSc. Le Hai Yen) were conducted in English. Both theses were highly regarded by the Council for their meticulousness and in-depth research into international studies to support their graduation theses.
