On September 25, 2025, the Science and Technology Advanced Institute (STAI) at Van Lang University successfully organized an international online academic exchange with the theme "Taxonomy to Conservation: Strengthening the Scientific Basis for Saving Asia's Tree Ferns."
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Thanh Phong, Director of STAI, affirmed Van Lang University’s interest and commitment to promoting international scientific cooperation, aligning research and training with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The program attracted nearly 200 experts, scholars, and researchers from various research and educational institutions around the world, creating a vibrant platform for sharing knowledge and experience in the field of taxonomy and biodiversity conservation. Participants came from countries including India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Thailand, Vietnam, Ethiopia, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Brunei, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, China, Singapore, and Spain. The presentations explored the current status and conservation solutions of Tree Ferns across different Asian regions, from Indochina, the Himalayas, to the Philippines, opening up many new scientific perspectives and research approaches.

At the forum, the presentation by Mr. Rijan Ojha, representative of the Biodiversity Research and Conservation Society, Kathmandu, Nepal, was remarkable and sparked an engaging discussion among participants. Focusing on the biodiversity and conservation of tree ferns in the Himalayas, Mr. Ojha not only highlighted the challenges this species faces but also reflected on the larger threats to the ecosystem. He underscored the importance of clarifying taxonomic issues before determining conservation statuses and emphasized the need to understand ecological requirements for effective conservation. In particular, Mr. Ojha called for greater awareness and knowledge dissemination as a fundamental pillar in tree fern conservation.
