“Mirae Map: Charting the Path – Shaping the Future”: Supporting Students from the Faculty of Korean Language and Culture at a Crucial Academic Crossroads

On the morning of February 3, 2026, at Campus 1’s Hall of Van Lang University, the Faculty of Korean Language and Culture organized a major orientation program titled “Mirae Map: Charting the Path – Shaping the Future.” The event was designed to provide students, particularly Class 29 students, with systematic and practical insights to support informed decisions regarding their specialization choices and future career directions.

The program was held with the support of the Korea Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (KOCHAM). Representing KOCHAM, Ms. Mai Thi Van, Deputy Chief of Office, shared that in addition to serving as a bridge connecting and supporting the Korean business community in Vietnam, KOCHAM places great emphasis on initiatives that benefit young people and education. She affirmed that KOCHAM and Korean enterprises will continue to accompany, support, and create opportunities for students to develop their professional competencies in the future.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Hien, Dean of the Faculty of Korean Language and Culture, highlighted the special significance of the orientation program for third-year students, who are approaching a pivotal turning point in their academic and professional journeys. According to Dr. Hien, through presentations by faculty members and practical insights shared by alumni, students would gain a stronger foundation for developing educational and career pathways aligned with their abilities, interests, and aspirations, rather than making decisions based solely on prevailing trends.

As part of the program, students attended a series of in-depth presentations introducing each specialization offered by the Faculty. Ms. Dang Phuc Diem An, Deputy Head of Department and Acting Head of the Korean Language Teaching Division, provided an overview of the curriculum, professional requirements, and career opportunities in the field of language education. She encouraged students to cultivate perseverance in learning and remain adaptable, emphasizing the belief that: “No one begins because they are already excellent; they begin because they are willing to learn every day and become a better version of themselves.”

From the perspective of the Translation and Interpretation specialization, Ms. Nguyen Xuan Thuy Linh, Lecturer of the Faculty of Korean Language and Culture, offered practical analyses of the role of language professionals in an era marked by rapid technological advancement and the widespread adoption of artificial intelligence. She emphasized that despite the increasing prevalence of AI, human expertise remains indispensable in conveying meaning, emotions, and trust across cultures, stating: “AI can translate words, but only humans can translate meaning and trust.”

In addition, the program provided students with opportunities to interact with alumni currently working in the education and corporate sectors. Through authentic accounts of their academic experiences and their transition into professional environments after graduation, alumni helped students gain a clearer understanding of labor market expectations and the essential skills that should be developed during their university years.

Through the “Mirae Map: Charting the Path – Shaping the Future” orientation program, students were able to gain comprehensive insights into the characteristics of each specialization, potential career pathways, and the practical requirements of their chosen fields. The event thereby supported students in proactively designing suitable academic plans, maximizing their individual strengths, and building a solid foundation for sustainable professional development in the future.
