With the goal of career orientation and inspiration of scientific research to students who are majoring in Medical Biotechnology, on October 5, 2024, the Faculty of Applied Technology at Van Lang University (VLU) organized a thematic seminar “Medical Biotechnology in Drug Research and Screening”, opening opportunities to exchange and discuss with leading experts in the field, as well as have a deeper understanding of future jobs.
Under the guidance of the speaker of the program, Dr. Truong Minh Dung, General Manager of VOS Discovery Company Limited, the students learned about the Organoids, three-dimensional (3D) miniaturized structures cultured in vitro from human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) or adipose-derived stem cells (AdSCs), derived from healthy individuals or patients that recapitulate cellular heterogeneity; the structure and function of human organs.
In the discussion on groundbreaking applications of Organoid technology in the Biomedicine field, Dr. Truong Minh Dung gave an example of pancreatic cancer treatment research that uses the Organoid technology to grow tumors and figure out suitable regimens for patients. In an in-depth session about “3D structure - application in regenerative medicine, especially the treatment of knee cartilage damage”, the speaker said that Organoid technology is helping scientists make breakthroughs in finding new, detailed, and precise treatment methods.
Through the passionate sharing of the guest speaker, VLU students discovered lots of useful knowledge for their majors and jobs, thereby gaining more inspiration in their research and serving society. The thematic seminar has become a valuable connection for VLU students to learn from leading experts, orient careers, get motivation, and expect to carry out revolutionary research in the future.
