With the aim of enhancing the quality of research and teaching at the institution, on December 3, 2024, the Faculty of Finance and Banking at Van Lang University organized a seminar titled “Vietnam’s Economy in the First Half of 2024 and Perspectives for the Future”, dedicated to faculty members and staff currently working in the department.
The seminar was led by Professor Le Van Cuong, a renowned economist, honorary professor at the Paris School of Economics (PSE), and honorary research director at the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). He also serves as the director of the Center for Advanced Studies in Economics and Data Science (CASED). The event was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu, President of Van Lang University; Mr. Ngo Quang Trung- Vice President and Dean of the Faculty of Commerce; Assoc.Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tien Hoang- Dean of the Faculty of Finance and Banking and a team of lecturers and staffs.
The economic outlook for Vietnam in the first six months of 2024 has shown positive signals: the ICOR (Incremental Capital-Output Ratio) index has improved, and economic efficiency has significantly increased. GDP growth is estimated at 6.4%, making Vietnam one of the fastest-growing economies in Asia, second only to India (7%). Through his analysis and visual data evaluation, Professor Le Van Cuong emphasized: “Innovation is the driving force for Vietnam to achieve sustainable development and escape the middle-income trap in the future.”
In his discussion on innovation models, Professor Le Van Cuong highlighted the pivotal role of synchronized creativity across various fields, coupled with the robust application of Industry 4.0 technologies and a strong focus on developing high-quality human resources. He stressed that education, particularly at the university and postgraduate levels, needs to be deeply specialized and tailored to national characteristics in order to maximize potential, thereby fostering sustainable economic growth.
Through this event, the Faculty of Finance and Banking and Van Lang University gained critical guidance for enhancing their teaching practices, aiming to train dynamic and innovative generations of students in an ever-evolving environment.
