International Workshop on Establishing Research Partnerships and International Cooperation in Scientific Research

Within the framework of the project "Empowering Leadership in Transnational Education for Impactful and Sustainable Growth," sponsored by the Australian Government, Van Lang University, in collaboration with the University of Southern Queensland (Australia), organized a workshop titled “Understanding TNE: Establishing Research Partnerships, Joint Research, Cotutelle, and Joint Supervision,” on the morning of March 15, 2024. The main purpose of the workshop is to gain a deeper understanding of cooperation in scientific research and to promote research partnerships among universities in Vietnam.

Participants at the workshop are reputable experts, executives, and researchers working at leading universities in Australia and Vietnam, including: Ms. Bui Pham Lan Phương - Vice President of Van Lang University; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Thi Kim Anh - Dean of the Faculty of Environment and Director of the Scientific Research Development Department; Dr. Nguyen Huu Cuong – Director of the Quality Assurance Department; Prof. Ren Yi - Vice Chancellor of the University of Southern Queensland, Australia; Ms. Tran Bich Van - Director of Educational Development, Queensland Trade and Investment Office, Australia; Dr. Quach Thi Ngoc Minh, Senior Officer at the International Cooperation Department, Ministry of Education and Training; Dr. Dao Thanh Tung, Director of the International Relations Department, National Economics University. The workshop attracted over 50 scholars and university leaders participating face-to-face along with over 100 faculty members, university leaders, researchers, international cooperation professionals, and quality assurance professionals from universities nationwide attending online.

Prof. Ren Yi, the keynote speaker of the workshop, provided crucial information and data on scientific research and the management of scientific research training in Australia, international cooperation in scientific research, academic integrity and research ethics for more than three hours. Additionally, the speaker, along with the attending faculty members and scholars, discussed experiences in research partnerships in Vietnam, Australia, and several other countries around the world.

The discussions focused on educational partnerships in doctoral education, the establishment of joint research centers, co-funding research projects, and/or joint applications for research funding from international organizations. The outcomes of the workshop contributed to promoting international cooperation in universities between Vietnam and Australia, particularly in scientific research, an essential component of the transnational education model.

The project "Empowering Leadership in Transnational Education for an Impactful and Sustainable Growth" is known to be sponsored by the Australian Government through the Australia Alumni Grants Fund managed by Aus4Skills.

The project team consists of 5 scholars and professionals with expertise in transnational education and education management, currently working in Vietnam and Australia, including: Dr. Quach Thi Ngoc Minh from the Ministry of Education and Training, Project Leader; Dr. Bui Thi Nhu Huyen from Deakin University, Deputy Project Leader; Dr. Nguyen Huu Cuong from Van Lang University, Communication Team Leader of the Project; Dr. Dao Thanh Tung from National Economics University, Event Team Leader of the Project; Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Ly from Deakin University, Research Team Leader of the Project.
