On December 12, 2024, the Faculty of Korean Language and Culture at Van Lang University hosted a lecture titled "Korean culture: From traditional music to K-pop." This event provided a valuable opportunity for students to interact and learn directly from Professor Song Hyang Keun, a leading expert in Korean culture and language.

Currently, he serves as an Honorary Professor at the Faculty of Korean Language and Culture, Busan University of Foreign Studies (South Korea). He has previously held the position of President at various associations dedicated to Korean language and Korean language education. During his tenure as Director of the Sejong Foundation, Professor Song made significant contributions to promoting the Korean language and culture globally.
In his lecture, Professor Song highlighted the unique values in traditional Korean music, including court music (Jeongak) and folk music (Minsogak). Jeongak, designated for the nobility, is typically performed during royal ceremonies or banquets, while Minsogak is more commonly used among the general populace.

Following this, he analyzed the strong development of popular Korean music, especially K-pop, which has become a global cultural phenomenon beloved by the youth. He identified three main reasons for K-pop's widespread international popularity: catchy and memorable melodies; well-trained and professional artists from entertainment companies; and the efforts of these companies in fostering a cultural consensus..

Professor Song Hyang Keun’s lecture not only broadened the students' knowledge of traditional and modern Korean music but also helped them understand the role and value of culture in fostering friendship between Vietnam and South Korea.
