Gio Concert 2025 – “The Breath of Winter”: A Christmas Harmony at Van Lang University
Building on the success of Gio Concert 2023 and 2024, on the morning of December 24, 2025, at Trinh Cong Son Hall on the main campus of Van Lang University, the Faculty of Music, Theater and Film successfully organized the “Gio Concert 2025 – The Breath of Winter.” The concert offered lecturers and students a warm and emotionally rich musical space in the final days of the year.
Gio Concert 2025 was held under the academic direction of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Meritorious Educator Phan Thi Bich Ha, Dean of the Faculty of Music, Theater and Film, with content oversight by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Meritorious Educator Truong Ngoc Thang, Vice Dean of the Faculty, and Dr. Tran Thanh Ha, Deputy Head in charge of the Foundation Studies Division. The concert featured performances by artists, lecturers, pupils and students from the Wind and Percussion Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, together with artists from the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO).
With the theme “The Breath of Winter,” Gio Concert 2025 focused on presenting festive-season repertoire, highlighting the diversity of genres, ensemble formats, and expressive language of wind and percussion music within the orchestra. The audience had the opportunity to gain a deeper insight into the role of wind and percussion instruments in shaping musical structure, tonal color, and emotional depth. Thanks to their rich timbre, flexible dynamic range, and strong expressive capacity, these instruments play a vital role in classical music while also being widely applied in various contemporary and traditional musical genres.
The concert featured a series of works imbued with the spirit of Christmas and winter, including A Christmas Carol, Here Comes Santa Claus, All I Want for Christmas Is You, Hallelujah, Let It Go, Jingle Bells Fantasy, A Jazzy Christmas, and Adele in Concert, creating an emotional musical journey that resonated closely with the audience.
More than just a concert, Gio Concert 2025 was an occasion for lecturers and students of Van Lang University to share the joy of the festive season, reflect on a year of dedicated study and creativity, and close the year with enduring and beautiful artistic impressions.
