On October 2nd, 2024, the Faculty of Pharmacy at Van Lang University organized a seminar on "The Application of Polyvinyl Alcohol in Film Coating Technology and the Formulation of Extended-Release Tablets,", aiming to provide opportunities for Pharmacy students to learn and exchange knowledge with experts and scientists from around the world.

With over 20 years of experience researching the application of Polyvinyl Alcohol in pharmaceutical formulation, Prof. Kouji Hara - Gifu Pharmaceutical University, Japan; Project Development Director of Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation, delivered a lecture and updated students on the latest information on drug formulation technology from countries around the world.

During the discussion on the specialized knowledge of PVA's chemical structure, Prof. Kouji Hara shared and explained the suitability for pharmaceutical applications based on safety, water solubility, and biocompatibility. The speaker also presented practical applications of PVA in the pharmaceutical industry such as water-soluble excipients, film-coated tablets, fast-disintegrating oral films, and PVA nanofiber technology. After introducing two ongoing research projects at Gifu Pharmaceutical University (Japan), Prof. Kouji Hara expressed his desire to establish a long-term cooperative relationship with the Faculty of Pharmacy, Van Lang University through this seminar to promote research and academic exchange in the future.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Hong Huong - Vice Dean of the Pharmacy Faculty at Van Lang University, expressed her pleasure at the school’s opportunity to engage in academic exchange with international experts: "Prof. Kouji Hara's lecture has provided us with profound knowledge about PVA excipients, helping students to have an overall view, understand the nature and how to preserve this important excipient. In the future, we hope that the Faculty of Pharmacy will have more opportunities to collaborate with professors and experts to create rich learning experiences for students.”

The seminar was not only an opportunity to update the latest information in the field of pharmacy but also served as a bridge for students and lecturers to engage in academic exchanges with international experts.
