On December 11, 2022, in response to an invitation from the Military Command of District 6 (Ho Chi Minh City), lecturers from the Faculties of Health of Van Lang University, including the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy, and Faculty of Nursing and Medical Technology, participated in medical examination and treatment activities, taking care of social welfare support for the residents of Vinh Hung District, Long An Province.
During their visit to Long An Province, the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Technology had the participation of Ms. Ly Thi Phuong Hoa (MSc.) - Deputy Dean of the Faculty, and Ms. Le Thi Cuong Khanh (MSc.); The Faculty of Medicine had Doctor Pham Van Son (MMed.) and Doctor Pham Thi Viet Phuong (MMed.); The Faculty of Pharmacy had Ms. Le Thi Trang (MSc.), Mr. Pham Thanh Tan (MSc.), and Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy (MSc.). In particular, students from the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Technology also enthusiastically participated in supporting their lecturers.
“We were deeply touched to see so many people gathered, many of whom came early to get medical care. Seeing the images of the people looking forward to and welcoming us, the members of the team felt like all their fatigue was gone. We quickly got down to work, not wanting the people to wait any longer. We hope that this activity will continue to expand to more and more localities so that the Faculties of Health from Van Lang University can continue to help more patients.” Doctor Pham Thi Viet Phuong (MMed.) - The Deputy Head of the Subject of Internal Medicine - Pediatrics - Infectious Diseases, Faculty of Medicine, Van Lang University shared.
During the medical examination and treatment session, the delegation of doctors and pharmacists from Van Lang University provided medical care for over 160 residents, primarily focusing on the elderly and children. The majority of the residents commonly suffered from various diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, digestive disorders, musculoskeletal problems, strokes, and notably, high blood pressure. Understanding that the residents had limited awareness about the importance of screening and treating medical conditions, the team of doctors and pharmacists dedicated significant time to provide guidance and advice, encouraging them to take better care of their health.
The medical examination and treatment session was also an opportunity for students in the Faculties of Health to experience community-based care, gaining additional knowledge on health care from the participating doctors and pharmacists.
In addition to organizing free medical examinations and treatments, the Van Lang University Youth Union also provided essential items to residents of Hung Dien A border commune, Vinh Hung District, Long An Province. It is hoped that the meaningful activities of Van Lang University will continue to expand in scale to accompany many localities across the country.
