Exploring the World of Data with Specialists from the University of Technology Sydney (Australia)

On March 18, 2024, Honors Program Information Technology students and Business and Management faculty group students engaged in a dialogue on artificial intelligence and the data era with specialists from the University of Technology Sydney, or UTS (Australia).

At Van Lang University, students have the chance to engage in international learning experiences beyond simply moving from Vietnam's educational system to one of the world's most prestigious institutions of higher learning. It also involves fostering connections between students and specialists on campus. The exchange session with students from the Honors Program is one of the significant activities in the collaboration between Van Lang University and the University of Technology Sydney following the cooperation agreement signed in May 2023.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Amanda White - OAM, Deputy Head of the Education Department, and Mr. Thomas Wu - Director of International Development at UTS Business School, shared with VLU students the importance of data in the age of technology and global digitization.

Through case studies integrating AI, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nabin Sharma - Co-Manager of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Laboratory, shared insights into Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, and Deep Learning. he highlighted the quick advancement of AI based on research findings, providing fresh insights into the use of deep learning in technology. New viewpoints on the use of Deep Learning in technology as well as the rise of well-known AI applications like Facebook's facial recognition system, Apple's virtual assistant Siri, and Chat GPT were presented to VLU students.

Classes taught directly by specialists from the University of Technology Sydney to VLU students are crucial to the series of collaborative activities between VLU and UTS.

In the special topic “Achieving success in a data-driven world”, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Amanda White - OAM, Deputy Head of the UTS Business School, highlighted the contemporary significance of data exploitation and analysis in business management. Drawing specific examples from recent vibrant Korean music events in the Vietnamese market, she pointed out how market research could minimize risks in data mining, aligning with the targeted audience's needs. In the session, she guided VLU students in data mining and constructing basic data dashboards, facilitating comprehensive data access, clear information illustration, and grasping trends and consumer needs.

Based on the close cooperation between the two institutions, VLU students have the opportunity to receive scholarships valued at up to 25% of tuition fees for their studies at UTS.

In May 2023, Van Lang University signed a cooperation agreement with the University of Technology Sydney (Australia), initiating a 2+2 joint training program in Business Administration and Information Technology. This collaborative program, which has several enhancements to improve the educational experience, enables students who finish the first two years of study at Van Lang University and receive an IELTS score of 6.5 to be fully excused from 48 credits of similar courses at UTS. Students who complete the program are granted a degree by the University of Technology Sydney (UTS).
