On the afternoon of October 25, 2024, Van Lang University had the honor of hosting a cordial meeting with a senior delegation from the Ministry of Education & Training of the Republic of Vanuatu and the Consulate General of Vanuatu in Ho Chi Minh City.
The meeting was attended by the distinguished delegation from Vanuatu, led by Hon. Simil Johnson Youse, Minister of the Ministry of Education and Training of Vanuatu. Also accompanying the delegation was Mr. Tran Nam Trung, Consul General of the Republic of Vanuatu in Ho Chi Minh City, along with other officials and experts.
In the opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu, President of Van Lang University, expressed her honor in welcoming the high-level delegation from Vanuatu. She also shared her hope that both sides would explore new collaboration opportunities, further strengthening the relationship between the two countries.

Minister Hon. Simil Johnson Youse stated, “When our country gained independence, Vietnam was one of the first nations to establish diplomatic relations with us, officially in 1982. This is of great importance, and we still cherish the contributions of your predecessors in helping us develop our country from the very beginning. If the opportunity arises with your institution, we would like our students to come here. The government of Vanuatu fully supports this collaboration and is eager to open doors for expanding our relationship, not only in education but also in other areas.”
During the meeting, both sides discussed and outlined specific plans to implement educational cooperation programs. The exchange of students and lecturers was identified as a key focus. In this regard, Van Lang University committed to providing all necessary support to host Vanuatu students. Both parties agreed to work together to establish a long-term and sustainable partnership. Though the meeting was brief, it strongly affirmed the commitment to long-term collaboration, with a shared goal of developing high-quality human resources in both countries.

The Republic of Vanuatu, located in Oceania, consists of over 80 islands and lies nearly 2,000 km to the east of Australia. Vietnam and Vanuatu established diplomatic relations in 1982, shortly after Vanuatu gained independence. The first Vietnamese people arrived in Vanuatu over 100 years ago, and the Vietnamese community there has preserved its cultural traditions while making significant contributions to Vanuatu and the relationship between the two countries. The collaboration between Van Lang University and Vanuatu will not only strengthen the traditional friendship between the two nations but will also open up broader opportunities for cooperation in various fields, especially education, contributing to the development of high-quality human resources for both countries.
