Aiming to enhance awareness of gender equality in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), on December 12, 2024, Van Lang University, in collaboration with the MSD Vietnam Institute, organized the conference “STEM for Females: Career Opportunities and Gender Equality Development.”
The conference provided an opportunity for students to interact and learn from experts, while also connecting with major technology corporations such as Qualcomm Foundation, Mitek Vietnam, and reputable career centers like VOCO CENTER and VOCF.
Assoc. Prof. Ngo Cao Hoai Linh, Director of the Student Success Center at Van Lang University, emphasized the importance of encouraging women to participate in STEM. She stated that this not only advances gender equality but also contributes to the country’s socio-economic development. She called on the younger generation, especially female students, to overcome prejudices and challenges to pursue their passions in STEM fields.
Assoc. Prof. Tran Van Anh, Deputy Director of the Management and Sustainable Development Institute (MSD), shared insights about the STEMherVN project - an initiative aimed at encouraging and supporting women to participate in STEM by providing inspiration and offering learning and working opportunities. She emphasized that raising awareness and eliminating social stereotypes are essential steps toward achieving true gender equality in STEM and contributing to the construction of a sustainable society.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Thi Kim Oanh, Dean of Faculty of Environment and Head of the Department of Research Development at Van Lang University, expressed support for gender equality policies. She shared the University’s efforts in promoting gender equality through appropriate policies, aligning with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Thi Kim Oanh emphasized that Van Lang not only focuses on professional training but also on creating a sustainable learning environment where every individual has the opportunity for comprehensive development.
The conference “STEM for Females: Career Opportunities and Gender Equality Development” not only provided valuable knowledge but also strongly inspired female students to pursue careers in STEM fields. It is hoped that this event will serve as a solid bridge between Van Lang University, the MSD Vietnam Institute, and social organizations, contributing to the development of a confident, aspirational young generation for the long-lasting growth of the country.
