On August 29, 2023, the Faculty of Mechanical, Electrical and Computer Engineering organized the "Automated Guided Vehicle Design and Programing" contest with the theme "Mastering AI technology in the 4.0 era". The program raised awareness and fosters artificial intelligence application skills for students, creating opportunities for them to interact and practice on researching and applying interdisciplinary knowledge and techniques.
On the foundation of digital transformation, artificial intelligence has been widely applied globally. This is both an opportunity and a challenge that requires society to increase the young human resources for the fields of technology and engineering and, at the same time, develop the quality so that these resources can meet the requirements of the industry in an era of constant innovation. Staying ahead of the trend, the concept of automated guided vehicle technology has become more popular because it brings many practical benefits to industry and production.
An automated guided vehicle is a type of vehicle that moves automatically to carry loads and is often used in the production coordination process. By applying the method of moving through guide wires, electrical signal sensors, light reading sensors, etc., automated guided vehicles help increase safety, eliminate error factors, reduce overall costs, and increase productivity and accuracy compared to devices that need direct human control.
At the competition "Automated Guided Vehicle Design and Programing", contestants from the Faculty of Mechanical, Electrical and Computer Engineering of Van Lang University and the Faculty of Engineering and Technology of Binh Duong University of Economics and Technology were divided into groups to go through 3 rounds of competition. During 45 minutes, each team was responsible for controlling and taking pictures of the vehicle's journey, training the model to remember the route, and letting the vehicle run on its own on the training ground. The scoring criteria are based on: design criteria, finished taking 200 photos, training the model, and the vehicle's self-driving process must closely follow the training ground.
With many unique ideas, actively investing in learning and conveying the right topic "Mastering AI technology in the 4.0 era", the Electromechanical team from the Faculty of Mechanical - Electrical and Computer Engineering of Van Lang University won the overall First Prize.
SUMMARY OF THE "AUTOMATED GUIDED VEHICLE DESIGN AND PROGRAMING" COMPETITION First prize: Mechanical and Electrical team, including 2nd and 3rd year students majoring in Mechatronics Engineering and Electrical-Electronics Engineering Technology of the Faculty of Mechanical-Electronics Engineering of Van Lang University: Nguyen Khac Minh Khoa, Le Huynh Hai Dang, Nguyen Truong Gia Kiet, Pham Tran Dong Nhat. Second prize: Information Technology - Faculty of Engineering and Technology team of Binh Duong University of Economics and Technology, consisting of Information Technology students: Le Dinh Dung, Le Van Chung, Tran Minh Tam, Nguyen Van Cuong. Third prize: Software Engineering - Faculty of Mechanical-Electronics Engineering team of Van Lang University, consisting of 2nd year Software Engineering students: Ninh Duc Duy, Le Nhat Duy, Bui Nguyen Minh Lam, Le Duy Ha, Luong Thanh Vinh Consolation prize: Automotive Engineering Technology - Faculty of Engineering - Technology team of Binh Duong University of Economics and Technology, including students majoring in Automotive Engineering Technology: Nguyen Cong Truc, Nguyen Minh Phuc, Tran Nguyen Hoai Phuoc, Huynh Ngoc Thoai Nam, Tran Hong Quan |
Representative of the competition team of the Faculty of Mechanical, Electrical and Computer Engineering of Van Lang University, Nguyen Khac Minh Khoa - Course 27 of the Mechatronics Engineering major shared: “Our team is very happy to have the opportunity to win a high prize in this competition. Although we encountered many challenges during the process of researching and designing the vehicle, we also learned many useful lessons and arranged time to overcome the sprint period together. For me, the process of fixing vehicle errors is relatively difficult, requiring the whole team to consult many sources and test the process many times to choose the most optimal solution. I think this is an extremely meaningful experience that gives myself as well as my classmates the opportunity to practice, cultivate, and develop professional knowledge and skills.”
Van Lang University focuses on and invests in providing access to artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques through the academic playground, to bring practical experience to students. Hopefully, competitions like “Automated Guided Vehicle Design and Programming“ will be an open and suitable exchange space for students to exchange and learn, accumulate experience, and nurture your determination in the profession you are pursuing, keeping up with the trends of the times.
