On March 29, 2025, VLU Faculty of Architecture hosted a seminar titled "Architectural Rendering – Technique or Art?" The event aimed to provide students with opportunities to explore perspective drawing techniques and engage in in-depth discussions with leading industry experts on the role of rendering in architectural space creation.
According to Dr. Do Phu Hung, Dean of the VLU Faculty of Architecture, modern software has made the learning process for architecture students more accessible and convenient. However, rendering techniques remain an essential foundational step that cannot be overlooked. "We hope this seminar will introduce new methods of perspective drawing while also fostering deeper exchanges between our faculty members, students, and experts in the field," Dr. Hung remarked.
Ms. Pham Lan Huong, lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture, stated that developing perspective drawing skills requires students to have a strong grasp of Descriptive Geometry, which serves as the basis for understanding spatial structure and effectively expressing it in architectural drawings. She further noted that to excel in this area, young learners must hone their observation skills and cultivate a consistent practice ethic from an early stage.
Architect Nguyen Ha Thanh – Chief Architect of Hung Thinh Corporation and CEO of Hatarch Architecture Co., Ltd. – shared practical insights to help students overcome creative challenges and communicate their ideas professionally and effectively. He emphasized the importance of perspective theory and sketching methods in architectural design, encouraging students to take initiative in gaining knowledge, accumulating experience, and nurturing creative thinking, core elements essential for success in the profession.
As part of the seminar, VLU Architecture students also participated in a perspective drawing competition guided by Architect Nguyen Ha Thanh. He demonstrated a live sketch of an architectural structure and explained each step of the process in detail. This hands-on experience gave students a clearer understanding of creative work in real-world practice.
