In celebration of International Nurses Day (May 12), the Faculty of Nursing at Van Lang University organized the competition “Exploring the History of Nursing” on May 17, 2025. The event created a platform for students to explore the values of the nursing profession and understand its critical role in patient care settings.
International Nurses Day was initiated by the International Council of Nurses (ICN). In 1965, ICN officially chose May 12 - the birthday of Florence Nightingale (the founder of modern nursing) - as International Nurses Day, to honor her dedication and medical ethics, which have become symbolic of the profession.
In the final round, four teams participated in two main segments, focusing on knowledge related to the formation and historical milestones of the nursing profession. In the presentation section, students showcased their knowledge and presentation skills under the theme “Historical Imprints.” The quick-response segment created an intense and competitive atmosphere among the teams.
After impressive performances, the jury officially announced the final results as follows:
With a variety of competition formats, combining presentations and knowledge reflection skills related to the history of Nursing, the competition creates conditions for students to demonstrate critical thinking, teamwork ability, and confidence in presenting their views. Nursing students at Van Lang University not only gained more knowledge about their field but also strengthened their professional pride and sense of responsibility on their journey to becoming compassionate, dedicated nurses.
